,

Many of the world’s best golfers will tee it up to compete for the prestigious Presidents Cup.

This year, the competition will be held at Montreal’s Royal Montreal Golf Club from Tuesday through Sunday, September 24-29. The U.S. will face a team of international golfers minus European players.

The 2024 U.S. team members are Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, Colin Morikawa, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, Sahith Theegala, Keegan Bradley, Sam Burns, Tony Finau, Brian Harman, Russell Henley, and Max Homa. The International team members are Hideki Matsuyama, Sungjae Im, Adam Scott, Tom Kim, Jason Day, Byeong Hun An, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, Corey Conners, Mackenzie Hughes, Si Woo Kim, Min Woo Lee, and Taylor Pendrith.

The top six players for both the International and U.S. teams were determined by the PGA Tour BMW Championship final standings to qualify for the team. To round out the rest of the team, both captains pick an additional six golfers for the 12-man squad.

The 2024 team captains are Jim Furyk for the United States and Mike Weir for the International team. Each Presidents Cup contest has a head of state serve as the honorary chairperson; this year, that person is Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

The Presidents Cup began three decades ago and is a team match-play competition with 12 players on each team. The U.S. has won all but two of the competitions. Organized as a charitable event, funds are donated to organizations of the players’ choosing.

Play begins Thursday, September 26, and the team that amasses the most points after four days wins the competition. Each day is structured differently:

Thursday: Five matches total, four-ball (best ball) or foursomes (alternate shot)
Friday: Five matches total, foursomes or four-ball (the opposite of Thursday’s format)
Saturday: Eight matches total, four-ball and foursomes split the morning and afternoon
Sunday: Twelve matches total, singles
