These Childhood Friends Became Pro Athletes … Then Champions

, , , , , ,

They were childhood friends. Now they are pro champions.

Jayson Tatum plays for the Boston Celtics, the team that copped the 2024 NBA Championship. Matthew Tkachuk plays hockey for the Florida Panthers, and his team just won the NHL’s Stanley Cup. They both attended Chaminade College Preparatory School in St. Louis. Both were great athletes then and they dreamed of playing professionally.

On their off days, they watch each other’s games, always complimenting each other and wishing the best for an old pal.

Their story shows you that you never know who you sit next to. He or she might be a professional athlete one day.

About Matthew Paris

I grew up an avid Houston sports fan. After graduating from Texas Tech University in Theater and English Literature I worked as a marketing rep and coach for I9 Sports, coaching baseball, flag football, soccer, and basketball. I’m currently with Austin Sports Academy as a marketing coordinator, baseball and football coach, and coordinator of middle school and high school open play nights. I’ve written three short films for Looknow Productions and have also written articles on film marketing, producing, and directing. I really enjoy writing about sports and being an active contributor to The Sports Column.
