Sydney University recently announced that 2025 applications are now open for its prestigious Elite Athlete Program.
Since 1990, the program has assisted over 2,500 student-athletes in achieving excellence in academia and sport, making it one of Australia’s most well-established and successful initiatives. The Elite Athlete Program offers a comprehensive support package to foster high performance among elite and emerging student-athletes. Benefits and services include academic support, specialized training, and access to top-tier facilities, creating an environment where student-athletes can excel.

The program supports over thirty sports, and 300-plus student-athletes are currently enrolled. Membership is prioritized this way: 1) those who train/compete in high-performance programs administered by Sydney University Sport or a Sydney University sporting club, 2) represent the university in their sport or compete in Olympic and Paralympic sports, and 3) members must be endorsed by Sydney University sporting club or program where one exists.
Eligibility for the program requires students to be currently enrolled at the University of Sydney, but there are no specific course requirements. Both domestic and international students can participate and are encouraged to choose a study load that suits their circumstances. Factors to consider include scholarship requirements, sporting commitments, course obligations, and visa conditions for international students.
