The funding reduction decision is a significant setback for women’s sports and sends a concerning message about the value and support given to women’s athletics. Join the fight to restore lost funding!
The Swiss government recently decided to reduce funding for this prestigious tournament drastically. Originally allocated a budget of 15 million francs (£13.5 million), the funding has been cut down to four million (£3.6 million).
Women’s sports have been experiencing tremendous growth globally, with increasing viewership and participation rates. For example, the 2019 Women’s World Cup attracted over one billion viewers worldwide, highlighting the significant interest and support for women’s football.
We believe Switzerland must uphold the 2025 UEFA Women’s European Championships. Alternatively, if they cannot, we urge them not to sting duties to a country willing to provide the necessary support for this prestigious event.
We urge you to join us in urging Switzerland to reinstate full funding and reaffirm its commitment to promoting equality in sports. We believe that it is essential for fair play and inspiring future generations of female athletes. As of February 21, more than 1400 people have signed the petition.
Furthermore, I wanted to highlight the incredible success stories of women’s football, such as the recent achievements of the CommBank Matildas in Australia. Their success demonstrates the immense potential and popularity of women’s football on a global scale.
