Many fans nationwide are on fixed incomes and cannot afford the fees required to watch NFL football. Please, help us gain access.
I should start by saying I have been a football fan since the days of Joe Namath with the NY Jets. I am also impressed by today’s contributions the NFL makes to many causes in need. However, a population of your fan base has been cut off and denied the pleasure of watching football on TV.
I speak for myself, but I feel I may be talking for many more of those reduced to a fixed income. Pleasures are few and far between, and the loss of NFL football feels un-American.
Being on a fixed income has led me to forego many things most people take for granted. I cannot afford cable TV because there are no provisions for senior plans, and it is pretty expensive if you are on a low budget. I am fortunate to have nephews more knowledgeable than me who provide alternatives to cable. The other options are helpful but still do not provide complete NFL coverage. The games on specific channels cannot be viewed, and I do not have the means to purchase coverage from streaming or subscription plans because of the cost.
So, I’ve missed watching many games on Sundays, Mondays, and Thursdays.
It saddens me that an organization like the NFL cannot offer coverage for football fans who are financially underprivileged. The NFL seems to pride itself on its generosity and contributions to those in need, so I don’t understand how this can be unaddressed.
I understand it is a business; I know the NFL must make money. But I do not understand the lack of access to a population of fans that helped the NFL grow to what it is today. This seems wrong to me on many levels. Perhaps someone can address this or make sense of it, please.
A disenchanted NFL football fan,
Donna Cappadona
