The year is 2016, and Robby Heil is a Novi (MI) High School senior. Robby had a dream shared by many young men, but a dream that’s elusive for him because he has Down Syndrome. Instead of playing high school football, Robby became the team’s manager instead. Until the game plan changed….
Robby entered the September 16 game against South Lyon East playing as a running back. He took the handoff, ran down the field, and scored. Touchdown!
His terminally ill mom Debbie witnessed what happened and responded (as you would expect) with emotion. It was Robby’s night. His dream had come true.

About Matthew Paris
I grew up an avid Houston sports fan. After graduating from Texas Tech University in Theater and English Literature I worked as a marketing rep and coach for I9 Sports, coaching baseball, flag football, soccer, and basketball. I’m currently with Austin Sports Academy as a marketing coordinator, baseball and football coach, and coordinator of middle school and high school open play nights. I’ve written three short films for Looknow Productions and have also written articles on film marketing, producing, and directing. I really enjoy writing about sports and being an active contributor to The Sports Column.
