After the Series’ clinching win, Troy Finner, Houston’s Chief of Police, said, “When the Astros win, crime goes down.” He’s right. There’s just joy.
After going to the celebration parade in downtown Houston, I know what Finner is talking about. The joy was magical! It made me think I had made a mistake–being invited to attend that final game but instead deciding to go to another local event. Needless to say, I made the wrong choice, but at least I got to experience the parade.
One of the highlights was standing by the garage and seeing the now-famous hat toss.
People everywhere were yelling, “Let’s go, Houston!” When the parade ended, I had to wait a long time to depart because of bumper-to-bumper traffic. Buses were packed, too. It was all worth it, though.
And the Houston Police did a fantastic job of surveillance and security. Yes, when the Astros win, crime comes down. People are happy and celebrating!
Congratulations, Astros! You have made us proud … again!
