With the mass litany of injuries (and other “discretions”) across the NFL landscape, it is now time to stock up on your  bench for your fantasy football team. Troubles with the lack of consistent running back production has plagued the fantasy football world. Top picks like Adrian Peterson, LeSean McCoy, Jamaal Charles, Matt Forte and Eddie Lacy have changed the outlook of many teams already.

Well now heading into Week 4, most fantasy football leagues are close to a having a third of their regular season almost over. Trade deadlines will rapidly approach and fantasy owners need to get proactive. It is time to load up on flex options and play the match ups week by week.

Sitting on an extra starting quarterback? Have three top 20 running backs right now? Have two stud wide receivers? Now is the point to look into what is available. Sell off one of your top assets to create a truly deep bench.

Their are plenty of players with question marks for the rest of the season, which will have owners having an itchy trade finger. Can you receive Minnesota Vikings running back Matt Asiata PLUS a New Orleans Saints wide receiver Marques Colston AND Cleveland Browns tight end Jordan Cameron for Washington Redskins running back Alfred Morris? Jump on it immediately; you now added an extra two starting caliber players with one move.

Finding multiple players that can start for the rest of the season will be more valuable than one player that holds down starting spot every week. Fantasy football owners get trapped in playing a “must-start” QB1, RB1 or WR1, while ignoring bad match ups they face. Just looking at the Green Bay Packers, quarterback Aaron Rodgers should have rode the bench in Week 1 on the road against the Seattle Seahawks. Running back Eddie Lacy should have followed suit against the New York Jets stout run defense in Week 2. Their fantasy football owners certainly paid for those bad performances.

So taking those options away from yourself, things will open up to follow the match ups. That is why sitting Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean McCoy against the San Francisco 49ers would be a smart decision this week, if you have a running back like San Diego Chargers Donald Brown in waiting (who is facing the Jacksonville Jaguars). You must ignore your loyalty and do what is best for your fantasy football score.

Right now is time to load up on flex options, because as we have all seen so far in 2014, anything can happen in the NFL (and to your fantasy team).
