It’s Phoenix at Las Vegas, 10p. Eastern, on ESPN2.
Phoenix Mercury forward Diana Taurasi may not be completely healthy, but the three-time WNBA champion is playing through adversity. A sore ankle aside, Taurasi scored 14 points and had five assists on Sunday in a tense overtime win, 85-80, against Sue Bird, Jewell Lloyd, and the defending champion, Seattle Storm. Of course, Taurasi didn’t do it alone.
In the single-elimination game with the Storm, Brittney Griner posted a double-double with 23 points and 16 rebounds, while Skylar Diggins-Smith contributed 20 points, seven rebounds, and six assists, to help the Mercury advance.
Now Phoenix (19-5 on the year) travels to Vegas to take on the 24-8 Aces, a team that features Olympians forward A’ja Wilson, guard Kelsey Plum, and center Liz Cambage. The Aces are rested, too, having been on a bye since the end of the regular season.
Game Two in this three-game series will also be played in Vegas. The tip is set for Thursday night, 10p Eastern.
It should be a good one in the desert tonight.
