Quarterbacks always occupy center stage at the Super Bowl. And that axiom applies in spades this year.
It’s that time of year again, Super Bowl time! This time, it’s the Kansas City Chiefs vs. the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It will be an extraordinary game, too, because two great quarterbacks are at the center of this game–the Bucs’ Tom Brady and the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes.
Tom Brady is making his, count em’, 10th trip to the Super Bowl. He’s the oldest quarterback (at 43) to play in the big game, and the odds are –win or lose–that Sunday won’t be his swan song.
On the other side of the field is young (twenty-five-year-old) Patrick Mahomes, a player who has already won one Super Bowl ring. Will he get his second on Sunday? If so, will we be witnessing the changing of the guard? Time will tell whether Mahomes will challenge Brady, who has six rings to date.
On the other hand, if Brady wins this Super Bowl, he’ll do it without being in a Patriots’ uniform and without Bill Belichick on the sideline. What’s more, he will have pulled off an extraordinary feat.
On February 3 last year (before TB signed with TB), Sports Betting Dime listed Tampa Bay as +5000 to win Super Bowl LV. The odds dropped to about +1200 after Brady signed, and were still around +1000 on January 1 of this year.
Today, Tampa Bay is a modest +3 point underdog (courtesy Caesar’s Sports Book) with a chance-of-winning per ESPN’s Matchup Predictor of 48%.
So enjoy the Super Bowl and all that goes with it. I’ll be watching, too. Oh, my prediction?
Chiefs 38, Buccaneers 30.
