‘Tony the Tiger’ Has a New Mission–Youth Sports

Budget cuts to middle-school sports has ‘Tony the Tiger’ back in the spotlight.

When we were kids, many of us ate cereal to start our day. Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes was one of our favorite breakfast meals. Tony the Tiger was on the cereal box and TV commercials.

His famous tag line was “THEY’RE G-R-E-A-T!?

Today, Tony is on a new mission–bringing attention to the plight of America’s middle schools, where sports programs are being cut for budget reasons.

Basketball star Ben Simmons is helping out with what’s called ‘Mission Tiger.’ Simmons believes that playing sports as a child helped him develop his love for basketball. Tony the Tiger, Simmons, and Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes want to provide those benefits to as many schools as possible.

The program kicked off with a $1 million commitment to DonorsChoose.org, which helps teachers, coaches, and administrators in need. ‘Mission Tiger’ helps with fundraisers raise money for equipment, jerseys/socks, and shoes.

Growing up, I loved playing sports and made friendships that have lasted to this day. Sports help build character and confidence, too. The success I’ve had as an adult connects to years of playing sports, including experiences I had with great coaches and teammates.

Thanks, Tony!
