Manchester City disappoints as Liverpool scores easy win.
On Sunday, Liverpool beat the defending Premier League champions, 3-1, to further stamp itself as a serious title contender. Nineteen minutes into the first half, Liverpool were already leading 2-0.
The win strengthened Liverpool’s grip on 1st place. The Reds are 8-points clear of second place, Leicester City, and nine points ahead of fourth-place Manchester City. Liverpool is 4-0-1 in its last five contests, while Man City is 3-2.
Yesterday’s loss piled more misery on Pep Guardiola’s quest to retain the crown. It’s an uncomfortable place to be, too. In three years at City’s helm, Guardiola has won two Premier League (in his second and third seasons). He has also bagged an FA Cup.
With international play on tap, it will be a while before City has an opportunity to move up in the table. City won’t play another Premier League match until November 23 when it goes up against third-place Chelsea, a team that’s only one point ahead of City in the standings. Two other league games follow (Newcastle and Burnley), before City laces it up against intra-city rival, Manchester United, on December 7.
What lies ahead for City? It won’t be long before we know the answer.
