Anthoine Hubert died in late August during an F2 race at Spa-Francorchamps.
We thought deaths on the race track were over. We thought after the deaths of racing legend as Dale Earnhardt, NASCAR and Formula One would make racing safer for drivers.
Then came August 31st, 2019. The Belgian Grand Prix F2 racing event was going smoothly–until Anthoine Hubert crashed into American racer Juan-Manuel Corea during the second lap. Corea was injured, but Hubert succumbed to injuries at the age of 22 years old.
This recent incident, which occurred at the Spa-Francorchamps racing circuit, begs the question: Is racing too dangerous?
Hubert’s death reminds race fans of what happened to Dale Earnhardt. On the third lap of a race at the Daytona International Speedway on February 18th, 2001, Earnhardt crashed and died at the age of 49.
Is there a problem with the cars? Tracks? Drivers?
We may never know, for sure. But one thing is for sure: nobody wants to see other tragedies like those that befell Hubert and Earnhardt.

I dedicate this to the memory of Anthoine Hubert. Let his death be a lesson to all about the dangers of automobile racing.
