Since the league’s inception in 2011, over 100 players have had their names called on Draft Day. A dozen have made it to ‘The Bigs.”
It was an exhibition game well attended by professional Major League Baseball scouts and Baseball America, and covered by ESPN West Palm Beach. That’s because the South Florida Baseball Collegiate League (SFCBL) All-Star Game lineups were chock full of future major leaguers.
To date, three players have been drafted. The Angels picked Vincent Bianchi, RHP/IF, St John’s University and Matt Corlew, OF, Chipola College. The Pirates selected Austin Bodrato, OF, University of South Florida.
Extremely competitive, the SFCBL showcases collegiate baseball players from across the country with ten teams from the South Florida region–from West Palm Beach to Fort Lauderdale. This wooden bat summer league has a 44-game schedule with playoffs.
Players know that the league is a springboard to success. They get a feel for what it’s like to be a pro player as they face elite competition and gain invaluable experience. Since the league’s inception in 2011, over 100 players have had their names called on Draft Day. A dozen have made it to ‘The Bigs.”
To nobody’s surprise, this year’s All-Star rosters had MLB potential up-and-down the lineups with talent from across all collegiate divisions–Division I-III, junior college, and NAIA. The field also included players from five countries and territories, including the U.S., Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Canada, and Cuba.
Among the standouts was right-handed pitcher Nik Constantakos. In an inning of clean action, the University of Tampa junior struck out two and induced a weak grounder for the other out. Constantakos mix pitches well–his secret to keeping hitters off-balance–combining a 92-MPH fastball with 74-79 MPH curveballs and change-ups.
Team USA member, Sam Faith (from Missouri State) also impressed with a monster batting practice session. Faith is projected to be a top prospect in the 2020 MLB Draft. The switch-hitting shortstop is athletic with good range and arm strength.
On the international side, the Dominican Republic’s Merfy Andrew (from St. Thomas University) is a right-hander whose fastball is close to 100 MPH. Other names to keep in mind are Joey Hennessey (Palm Beach Atlantic) and Kieran Casey (Davidson University).
Go get it Nik, nothing stopping you now!
Constantakos is legit!

Constantakos pitching is a shoe in for the bigs it should be an easy transition into the bigs trading program to bring him to the next level. Fastball and curves are spot on.
Nik, keep making those batters swing like they are stirring the big soup 😉 keep it up buddy.
What a great opportunity for a group of young men to get their chance for the Big League! I hope the scouts were watching!
