It seems like a distant memory when Michael Vick came off a 2010 season, where he threw 21 TDs and just 6 ints. After that season the Eagles inked Vick to a 6 year $100 million deal, as he was expected to be the Eagles’ QB for years to come. However, as we all witnessed, Vick was not able to live up to these expectations. He struggled in the 2011 and 2012 seasons, turning the ball over constantly as well as being hit numerous times. This led to multiple injuries ranging everywhere from concussions to broken ribs.

Now, after having an outstanding first game of the season, Vick and the Eagles have went back to their old ways. Vick has been turning the ball over way too much, partly because of the monstrous hits he’s been taking. These hits he’s been taking is not anything new, but it has caused Vick to develop bad habits such as throwing off his back foot and scrambling when not necessary. He’s cant be held at fault for all of this but he can be held accountable for the bad decisions and inaccurate passes. Not to mention, his lack of awareness in the pocket and absent ball security. I’m not trying to bash Michael Vick because I’ve been a big fan of his since he was on the Falcons, I’m just telling the truth.
The question here is should the Eagles dump Vick. I think the answer to that question is yes. Not during the season, but after this season I think it’s over for Michael Vick. I believe the last few seasons of getting hit repeatedly has really hurt Vick mentally and physically. He has the talent still but he’s way too beaten up to perform at the level he used to be able to.
I’m not sure what Vick would do if the Eagles don’t bring him back after this season. He may be able to find a starting job in places like Cleveland or Jacksonville but I doubt he would want to play for either of those teams. I would say signing with a team to be a mentor to a younger QB would be the best option. One of those teams being the Redskins as we all know RG3 looked up to Vick growing up. The two have very similar styles as well, so I think Vick would be a big help to Griffin III. Another team would be the Jets. If the Jets are committed to Geno Smith, bringing in Vick would help him develop as he also has a similar playing style as Vick. Other than that, I don’t see Vick getting another job on a team that he would like to play for.
The Eagles are going to have to make major changes if they continue on the path they are going. Their defense is terrible an their offensive line is not much better. It’s just not working in Philly.
I could not agree more. The only problem with him coming to the Jets would be I am not so sure Geno can take much criticism . His ego is too big. Vick is probably done as a starting QB. Maybe he could help out the ailing Packers ( hear that Tim Z). Any how , great article. Keep up the good work.
Great article as usual Joe but I think Vick still might have another couple solid years left in Chip Kelly’s offense. Seems like the up tempo style is made for him. Yes he does turn the ball over but he always has even with Atlanta. He has a lot of weapons on that team I think if they can fix the defense they could win the division this year. With the Giants tanking the NFC east is up for grabs. Joe D you better hope the Jets get him because Geno stinks! Go Pack Go!
That is a good point with Geno’s ego. Could be a problem. And I think he probably can get through another few seasons in Philly but he just turns it over too much and gets injured too much to go anywhere. They may be able to win the division but not a chance of them making noise in the playoffs with their defense as it stands and giving away the ball like they do. Either way I do hope Vick can turn it around, stop with the turnovers and stay healthy. As we saw today though, Vick at least strained his hamstring so we will see how that plays out
