New Orleans Saints Offense vs. Atlanta Falcons Defense
Tale of the Tape: Since Sean Payton became head coach and revived the Saints franchise in 2006, the Saints have owned the Atlanta Falcons. Don’t expect a different outcome when the Falcons travel to the Superdome on September 8th. Sean Payton has had a year to dissect the Falcons over-rated defense and will look to make a statement against the 2012 NFC South champs.
F U Mode: The parallels between the 2013 New Orleans Saints and the 2007 New England Patriots are quite glaring; elite head coaches, über-competitive quarterbacks and elite skill position weapons. But the similarity that could spark a record shattering offensive year for the Saints is the ‘F*** You’ persona that the team will take following Bountygate; the same quality that led to plays like these for the 2007 Pat’s following Spygate.
Outlook: The Atlanta Falcons feature the worst defense in the NFL against tight ends; and with the best tight end in football, look for Jimmy Graham and Drew Brees to connect early and often. If you are in a 12-16 team league, don’t be afraid to start rookie 5th round pick Kenny Stills in a flex position. Still’s ran a 4.34 40 at the combine and had a monster preseason. With the departure of Devery Henderson, look for Stills to become a consistent target in the Saints offense. The usual suspects; Brees, Marques Colston and Lance Moore are great options as well, enjoy week 1 everyone.
