Top 10 NFL Offenses

The NFL has increasingly become dominated by the quarterback position. A good quarterback is an on and off the field leader; off the field, the QB keeps his team together, take control and is always communicating. On the field, the communication continues and QBs conducts the offense. Though quarterbacks are the most important piece of an offense, the pieces around them do more than just compliment the quarterback. Guards, running backs, wide-receivers and tight ends all play an important role in creating a deadly offense.

Here is a list of the Top 10 NFL Offenses for the 2013-2014 NFL season.

10) New York Giants
Coached by
Tom Coughlin
Offensive Coordinator: Kevin Gilbride

Eli Manning is in his 9th year as an NFL quarterback and has already captured two  Super Bowl wins, both against the New England Patriots and Tom Brady. Last year, the Giants averaged 355.4 yards per game, 5.9 yards per play and 26.8 points per game.  They also have great receivers on both ends, Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz.  What really hurts the Giants,  they lost Amhad Bradshaw.

9) Atlanta Falcons
Coached by Mike Smith
 Offensive Coordinator: Dirk Koetter

The Atlanta Falcons had a rough time running the ball last year but that should improve with Stephen Jackson starting at RB. Last year, Matt Ryan threw for 32 touchdowns with a completion percentage of 68.6%. The Falcons are deadly when throwing the ball; they have two great receivers, Julio Jones and Roddy White. You cannot forget TE Tony Gonzalez, who caught the ball for almost 1,000 yards last season.

8) Baltimore Ravens
Coached by
John Harbaugh
Offensive Coordinator: Jim Caldwell

Though the Ravens lost Anquan Boldin, they still remain a very strong offensive team; Joe Flacco is preparing for an MVP season. Flacco has a career completion percentage of 60.5& and basically guarantees  20+ thrown touchdowns per season. Last season, the they averaged 5.4 yards per play; the Ravens also have a solid offensive line to run block for Ray Rice. Out of 257 run attempts Rice racked up 1,143 yards, averaging 4.1 yards per carry.

7) Houston Texans
Coached by Gary Kubiak
Offensive Coordinator:
Rick Dennison

Give credit to the Texans offensive line, last year only six teams allowed their QB to get sacked less than the Houston. That entire unit has done a great job protecting Matt Schaub and providing running room for Adrian Foster. Offensively the Houston Texans are a threat because they can hand the ball off to foster or throw it down the field to Andre Johnson. Last season, Johnson averaged 99.9 receiving yards per game, a statistic that should not be overlooked.

6) Washington Redskins
Coached by
Mike Shanahan
Offensive Coordinator: Kyle Shanahan

Last season, RG3 took home the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. Griffin helped the Redskins lead the league in yards per play, averaging 6.2yards per play. Pierre Garcon told NFL AM that RG3 and Peyton Manning share a lot of similar qualities. He even said “Robert is going to be as good as Peyton,” only time will tell. The Skins’ success will depend on RG3’s knee and health.

If he can stay healthy then the Redskins are looking at a great season. Griffin has a solid group of receivers to throw to, a better offensive line and Alfred Morris behind him to run the ball.  Last season, Morris had 13 TDs and averaged 100.8 yards per game. Washington has to make adjustments to keep RG3’s knee healthy, it will be interested to see what the Shanahans come up with.

5) San Francisco 49ers
Coached by
Jim Harbaugh
Offensive Coordinator: Greg Roman

The 49ers had a very interesting season last year and fell just short of becoming Super Bowl Champions. The Niners averaged 361.8 yards per game and 6.0 yards per play last season. Colin Kaepernick only started in seven regular season games last year but put up a record of 5-2 and lead his team to the Super Bowl. In just seven games, Kaepernick threw ten touchdowns and ran for five.
San Francisco was very lucky to obtain Anquan Boldin, which makes their passing game even deadlier. The 49ers also have a very deadly run game with Frank Gore at starting RB. Gore averages 79.5 rushing yards per game and 4.7 yards per carry; watch out for the 49ers this post-season.

4) Seattle Seahawks
Coached by Pete Carroll
Offensive Coordinator: Darrell Bevell

The Seattle Seahawks led by the dynamic Russell Wilson averaged 350.6 yards per game and 5.8 yards per play. The Seahawks are one of those teams with a ‘new’ quick QB. In his rookie season, Wilson threw 26 TDs and averaged 7.9 yards gained per pass attempt.

The Seahawks have added Percy Harvin to their line up; expect Wilson to have another big season with his new weapon (if he ever plays). The Seahawks averaged 25.8 points per game, a statistic I expect to increase.

3) Green Bay Packers
Coached byMike McCarthy

Offensive Coordinator: Tom Clements

The Packers are very fortunate to have one of the best QBs in the NFL, Aaron Rodgers; he had a completion percentage of 67.2% and threw for 4,295 yards).  The loss of Greg Jennings in not a big one for the Packers, they still have Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb. It will be interesting to see how the Packers run game does, they have to young backs, Eddie Lacy and Johnathan Franklin.

2) Denver Broncos
Coached by John Fox
Offensive Coordinator: Adam Gase

Last season was Peyton Manning’s first season with the Denver Broncos. Denver finished second in scoring just behind the Patriots. Denver though was able to grab the Patriots best received and Tom Brady’s ‘go-to-guy’ Wes Welker. Welker will provide raw talent for Peyton Manning. I am expecting them to do serious damage on the field together this year. The Broncos have released Willis McGee, so I’m unsure how their run game will do.

1) New England Patriots
Coached by Bill Belichick
Offensive Coordinator: Josh McDaniels

For years, the New England Patriots have been one of the most offensively sound teams in the NFL. Quarterback Tom Brady has kept been responsible for the Patriots offensive success. Last season, New England scored 79 more points than any other franchise. Brady lost his favorite receiver but  should have a new one with Danny Amendola. This season, Rob Gronkowski is back and will make a huge impact at starting TE. New England also has the best offensive line in the NFL. When it comes to offense, New England does it best.
