Fellaini broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the dying minutes to give ManU a 2-1 win.
Football fans across the world were shocked last week when Arsene Wenger announced that he’d be stepping down as Arsenal manager come season’s end. “After careful consideration and following discussions with the club,” Wenger said on the team’s website, “I feel it is the right time to step down at the end of the season.”
Last Sunday was a memorable day for Wenger because it marked his final trip to Old Trafford as manager of Arsenal. Former Manchester United coach and Wenger’s long-time rival, Sir Alex Ferguson, joined up with the current United coach, Jose Mourinho, to commemorate the occasion.
Wenger spent twenty-two years at the helm. During that time, Wenger had three league titles, claimed seven FA Cups, and earned seven community shields. But it has been seventeen years since he last clinched the league and Wenger had been widely criticized for that drought. Many fans called for Wenger to be fired.
Wenger responded by bringing home the FA Cup last year. He’s now in the UEFA Europa League semi-finals.
If only he had left Old Trafford with a final victory. But it was not to be. Marouane Fellaini broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the dying minutes to give ManU a 2-1 win.
