The Deadline has come and past as of 3pm; here is the details of all the moves.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have made the biggest splash so far aquiring Jarome Iginla, Brendan Morrow and Douglas Murray, and they may not be done yet as Sidney Crosby is down and out for at least a month with a broken jaw.
The St. Louis Blues landed defenseman Jay Bouwmeester last night in exchange for a 2013 first round draft pick, defenseman Mark Cundari and goalie Reto Berra – a little over priced if you ask me as Bouwmeester has struggled the last few years, but he has been decent this season. The Blues also aquired defenseman Jordan Leopld from the Buffalo Sabres for a 2013 2nd round pick and a 2013 conditional 5th round pick.
The Buffalo Sabres also traded rugged defenseman Robyn Regehr to the Los Angeles Kings for two second round draft picks. Great pick up for the Kings as defenseman Matt Greene is also slated to return from injury and d-man Willie Mitchell is now out.
The Chicago Blackhawks picked up center Michal Handzus for a 2013 fourth round pick. They finally got their big 3rd or 4th line center but are still active on the phones.
The Philadelphia Flyers haven’t done anything extraordinary yet, but they did trade RW Harry Zolnierczyk to the Anaheim Ducks for LW Jay Hill. The Ducks get Harry Z who adds much needed toughness. The Flyers also aquired defenseman Kent Huskins from the Red Wings for a 2014 conditional seventh round pick. This will help the much depleted Flyers defense.
Ryan Clowe was traded to the New York Rangers for a 2013 2nd round pick, 2013 conditional 3rd round pick and a 2014 conditional 2nd round pick. The conditions are based on whether or not the Rangers win 2 playoff rounds and/or Clowe resigns with the Rangers. He has no goals this year, but he’s a big body for the Rangers to plant in front of the net.
Jaromir Jagr was traded to the Boston Bruins for forward Lane MacDermid, forward Cody Payne and a 2013 conditional 2nd round pick. Jagr is 41 but his experience and leadership have been proven since he re-joined the league last year. The Flyers were never interested in bringing Jagr back. This is a big boost for the Bruins. Not sure who the kids are that came back to Dallas, but they are definitely rebuilding next year.
Derek Roy was traded to the Vancouver Canucks for defenseman Kevin Connauton and a 2013 2nd round pick. Another draft pick and young prospect back to Dallas, however I wonder how much more the Stars could have gotten. The Canucks got their depth center and that could make things interesting in trying to ship out Luongo as their price may have changed.
Marc-Andre Bergeron was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes for forward Adam Hall and a 2013 7th round pick. The Hurricanes are struggling lately and Bergeron already picked up an assist in last nights game. They lost Joni Pitkanen to a lower body injury when he went crashing into the boards. Bergeron will a nice replacement but now the Canes need to look for someone else.
Davis Drewiske was traded to the Montreal Canadiens for a 2013 5th round pick. Drewiske was a UFA at the end of the season. The Kings picked up Regehr yesterday and are expecting Matt Greene back. They may still be looking for some extra scoring.
The Washington Capitals pulled off a pair of small trades. They acquired forward Dane Byers from Edmonton for defenseman Garrett Stafford and sent forward Matt Clackson to Phoenix for enforcer forward Joel Rechlicz, who played for the Caps last year. Both Byers and Rechlicz were sent to Hershey.
That’s it so far…
