If a Sport is Great, Then Sporting Spirit is the Greatest

Storyline: Sports is life, life is sports. In the reality’s many obstacles and uncertainties, if there’s anything that I adore, if not abhor, its sports.

“Men love to wonder, and that is the seed of science.” – Ralph Emerson

The sun’s busy in completing its revolutions and we, the social animals have been for late, oscillating in many a direction. The Olympics in Rio have brought and will bring many a tear of joy and anger come Japan, 2020. In the present-day era, one can say, competition is competing itself like never before.

At the cusp and curb of a morning’s coffee or an evening’s tea, we find ourselves busy in grabbing a mug of the former and the latter and, in a few cases, pints if only to ostracize many a melancholy of reality. Then, sir comes to the fore, sports occupying the soft and hard palate of many an hunger gut.

Optimism and pessimism are found everywhere in the parks and the lawns and on the clay of track and field. Wayne Gretzky, hockey icon (1978–1999), once said, “A good hockey player plays where the puck is. A great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be.” Isn’t it abruptly and brutally true? As an unsuccessful sportsperson these lines motive and inspire me to an immortal.

But is this sports and life all about, a few ask? My reply to them is, yes. Sports is life, life is sports. In the reality’s many obstacles and uncertainties, if there’s anything that I adore, if not abhor, its sports. We drops bucks of lachrymal ducts when down and give our vocal cords an humongous sounding when on top and when winning, Yet, I find humility and humanity are the ones which rule and reign the world of sport and life.

Am I not right in this case? On a frank note, people who inspire me always are, Michael Jordan, Michael Phelps, Rafael Nadal, Sir Chris Hoy, Rahul Dravid, Bryan Robson and last but surely not the least, Paul Scholes.

An eminent scientist once said, “The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have too much; it is whether we provide enough for those who have little.” I hope, our athletes will stay focused, work hard, and make their nations proud in life and times ahead.

I dream a day, where human beings and athletes adhere to the canons of humanity and herald to a camaraderie, making world a serene place to live in.

In my words, if a sport is great, then sporting spirit is the greatest.

Very amateur writing. High sounding words apart, the writing lacks conviction and quality.
