Eagles Camp Notes with Brett Dickinson:
It was a very quiet day at camp, as their was not much trash talk (not sure if that was because the main noise maker, Cullen Jenkins, was not in attendance) and a business atmosphere.
After trading Moise Fokou and Greg Lloyld, the Eagles have basically set their Linebacker core for this season. They usually keep 6 LB’s; the first team currently: Mychal Kendricks (SAM), DeMaco Ryans (MIKE), Brian Rolle (WILL). Second Team consists of: Jamar Chaney (SAM), Akeem Jordan (MIKE), Casey Matthews (WILL), who did not practice. Kendricks has performed above expectations in camp, really flying around and utilizing his speed. During team drills, he snuffed out a screen pass for LeSean McCoy and caught him in the backfield.
During, QB drills with Receivers, both Vick and Nick Foles practiced scrambling drills, where the pass-catchers had to adjust on the fly to come back to the ball. Vick also is starting to develop a good report with TE Brent Celek, connecting on several crisp passes down the middle of the field. The scouting report on Foles coming out of college was he was not mobile, but he moved well on bootlegs.
The player with the safest spot on the team, that was not a starter last year, is Fullback, Stanley Havili. He took all the reps with the first team even though their wasn’t that many to take. Also in the backfield, Bryce Brown has established himself ahead of Chris Polk for the roster spot, taking all the second team snaps with Dion Lewis out.
The big news of the day was Nate Allen and Nnamdi Asomougha’s collision during team drills. Both were making a play on an overthrown ball, when Nnamdi’s head “collided with my sternum,” according to Allen. He was hacking for a couple minutes to catch his breath, while Nnamdi laid on the ground. Asomougha took his helmet off on his own and walked off the field before being carted to the facility for concussion tests. Nnamdi suffered a busted lip and a sore neck, according to Eagles personnel. Other defensive backs had a rough day as well, as Brandon Hughes got beat on a couple double moves and Cliff Harris was allowing too much cushion during 7-on7 drills.
The Eagles finish camp 8/14/12 and move back to Philadelphia to the NovaCare Complex on Broad Street.
I don’t see the eagles keeping a fullback, Havili will be on the practice squad. Polk is valuable in the backfeild and has plenty of expirience coming from a big time program.
