The Sports Column second stop on the training camp tour at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. for Philadelphia Eagles practice.
A Couple Notes from the day:
Bryce Brown looked very good in inside running drills but struggled in route running and catching the ball. Marty Morhinweg even pulled him aside to talk him at one point about his struggles in the passing game. Brown was working with the third the entire practice.
Ronald Johnson wasn’t the only Eagle to leave with a broken ankle (who was working with the second team ahead of Marvin McNutt). DeSean Jackson made Brandon Hughes look really bad with a juke move on the sideline, while LeSean McCoy did the same to O.J. Atogwe in the middle of the field. The offensive skill position starters looked ready to ahead of schedule in preparation for the season.
Jackson had his own issues, as he scuffled with Brandon Hughes, but also had a bad attitude when a pass was called incomplete on a throw that hit the ground before he corralled it. He threw the ball down and walked back to the huddle, even though Andy Reid was signaling him to hurry up. Though, earlier on, DJax helped Reid pull his shorts up and the two were joking around with each other. It was noticeable the admiration the two have for each other.
Cullen Jenkins took a lot of reps at DE with Jason Babin out, with Fletcher Cox working in with the first team during installation drills.
Brandon Boykin was all over the coaches, as he consistenly looked for comments and help during every drill. He really showed a willingness to learn, and will definately be in the mix for a top four corner position (even though Curtis Marsh took reps as the outside corner in the dime, with Nnamdi Asomougha sliding inside).
