Karlyn Pickens just broke the NCAA record for the fastest pitch thrown in a softball game–college or otherwise.
Playing for the Tennessee Volunteers, Pickens broke the record last Monday in an SEC contest against Arkansas. The hurl was clocked at 78.2 MPH. Pickens did not give up a hit in her 4.1 innings vs. the Razorbacks, and she struck out six batters.
Monica Abbott previously held the record (77 MPH) registered in the 2012 National Pro Fastpitch game against the Carolina Diamonds.
Congrats, Karlyn Pickens, on setting the record for the fastest pitch in softball history.
