Giants Should Trade Up for Colorado’s Sanders

There are n0-brainers, and there are no-brainers. This is a double no-brainer.

Owner John Mara has put General Manager Joe Schoen and Head Coach Brian Daboll on notice to improve the Giants in 2025. That insistence showed when the team tried to convince Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford to agree to a two-year, $90 million deal. That said, Stafford now has a restructured deal to remain a Ram.

Perhaps he did the Giants a favor. The odds are that they would not be a Super Bowl contender with Stafford. Here’s a better option: give up plenty of draft picks to get the #1 overall draft pick and draft Shedeur Sanders–even if it means giving up the entire draft capital of this year.

It’s that important because Daboll and Schoen need a quarterback heading into 2025, and free agency and trade options are uninspiring. Kirk Cousins will not improve the Giants. Aaron Rodgers is not worth the trouble. Forget about Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, and Sam Darnold. They are not that good.

On the other hand, Sanders is worth the investment. He’ll bring buzz as a dual threat who can run and throw for touchdowns. Perhaps the best thing about Sanders is that his game is similar to Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels, whom Daboll was high on in last year’s draft.

Besides, there is no guarantee that great quarterbacks will be available in the Draft over the next few years, and the Giants don’t have the time to wait and see if Arch Manning pans out. Meanwhile, the opportunity to acquire Sanders is there, and it’s available now.

Schoen and Daboll have nothing to lose. Even if they get fired at the end of the year, at least they show serious intent–something the Giants have been lacking.
