It would be a game-changer for the sport.
If you are a sports fan, how can it be fun for the same teams to sign all the star players? Imagine the MLB if each team spent the same bankroll on players. What would happen? Top teams couldn’t monopolize the star players, and different cities could experience the thrill of top-end talent.
MLB needs a salary cap to promote competitive balance and ensure smaller-market teams can compete with wealthier franchises. A salary cap would help create a more level playing field, increase parity, and maintain fan interest across all markets.
It would also encourage financial sustainability by limiting overspending and promoting innovative team-building strategies. Ultimately, a salary cap would make the league more competitive and fairer for all teams.
___________
Major League Baseball (MLB) does not have a salary cap per se. To determine how much teams can spend on players’ salaries, MLB uses what it calls the Competitive Balance Tax (CBT).
