Twelve sports were eliminated.
The Commonwealth Games, which will be organized in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2, 2026, have dropped major sporting events. The major sports that faced the axe included badminton, hockey, squash, table tennis, wrestling, archery, diving, rugby sevens, mountain biking, squash, beach volleyball, and rhythmic gymnastics.
It will be the first time since 1966 that badminton has been excluded from this tournament. Hockey, squash, and table tennis have been part of it since 1998, with table tennis competed since 2002.
However, the 23rd edition of the event will offer athletics and para-athletics opportunities in track cycling and para-track cycling, boxing, weightlifting and para-powerlifting, bowls and para-bowls, artistic gymnastics, swimming and para-swimming, netball, judo, and 3×3 basketball and 3×3 wheelchair basketball.
