Legendary actor Bill Murray was on hand Monday night to see his son, Luke, a UConn assistant coach, win his second consecutive national championship.
Coach Dan Hurley’s UConn Huskies are the men’s national champions. Hurley is the brother of the college basketball great Bobby Hurley (Duke) and the son of a legendary NJ high school coach, Bob Hurley.
The family connections remind us of what we experienced during football season: Jim Harbaugh won the college football championship at Michigan, while brother John led his Baltimore Ravens to the NFL playoffs. Dad Jack was a legendary college football coach.
The UConn team also has a son-father connection but in a cross-over fashion. Assistant coach Luke Murray is actor Bill Murray’s son. The younger Murray worked previously at Wagner and Rhode Island, while his dad has a long list of TV and film appearances to his credit, including Saturday Night Live, Ghostbusters, and Stripes.
Luke Murray is listed as one of ESPN’s top 10 coaches under 40, so odds are good that Luke will soon make a name for himself as a college head coach. But for now, there’s celebrating to do!
