Dr. Earnest Fingers: “Sports, A Tool for Life”

, ,

Next week. Dr. Earnest Fingers will speak at a national conference about how strength coaches can motivate athletes.

Based in Ormond Beach, Florida, Dr. Fingers has over 20 years of experience in the industry and has worked for several teams, including the Jacksonville Jaguars. His company, The Fingers Touch, is an organization focused on motivating sports teams to do their best to win in a healthy way.

I sat down with Dr. Fingers before his talk to discuss his career and his upcoming talk.

McElwain: Thanks for sitting down with me, Dr. Fingers. My first question is, what is your advice for anyone wanting to go into sports?

Fingers: It’s always about building those mentorships and being around those who are in that profession. It may not be about doing what you want to do, but it can provide different perspectives.

McElwain: Describe your mission in one word.

Fingers: Winning.

Upcoming talk at the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Sports Association conference

McElwain: You have a talk on May 8th. What can you tell us about that?

Fingers: It is with the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Sports Association, the governing body of strength and conditioning coaches. Having a conversation with these coaches will help strengthen that word of winning. You can encourage the players and athletes to see that while they may not see the playing time they like, but they can win in other ways.

McElwain: Where do you see yourself in thirty years?

Fingers: I am retired but still helping. I aim to assist people in winning, as everyone wants to win. I want to stay in the position of helping people achieve their goals.

McElwain: What are your hopes for the future?

Fingers: The most significant thing is how we leverage sports to make them a tool for life. There are so many attributes that can help you be a great athlete, and I think you need to be successful as a businessman. We need to maximize those opportunities, as so many athletes won’t see their paychecks for their athletic abilities. I hope to keep sharing this information.
