We’re just weeks away from Super Bowl 58, and Wild Card games are kicking off this weekend. But there’s a problem. This weekend, the weather was the wild card. While the Dolphins-Chiefs went on as scheduled Saturday night, played in -27 wind chill temperatures, Sunday’s Steelers-Bills game has been moved to Monday afternoon. Was that the right call?
Out of extreme caution, NY Governor Kathy Hochul and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell postponed the Bills-Steelers game. But that decision didn’t make some fans happy, especially Steelers fans.
This isn’t the first time a football game has been postponed or relocated. Last season, the Bills-Browns game (also a Bills home game) had to be relocated to Detroit.
I understand why the fans might be upset about this year’s postponement. Football tickets are costly, and fans traveling from a distance face food and lodging costs. But let’s face it: What’s more important, football or fan safety? That’s why Governor Hochul is doing the right thing by moving the game to Monday.
Be safe in extreme weather, and don’t risk your life for sports.
