America’s insatiable appetite for pro football is fed after the NFL season ends. Several spring leagues–the USFL and XFL–tried to make a go of it commercially, but neither could do it sustainably. But the third time may be the charm. The leagues have merged and formed The United League.
The UFL (United Football League) will have eight teams playing in two conferences, which will be named (appropriately) after the respective predecessor leagues. The USFL conference will include the Birmingham Stallions, Houston Roughnecks, Memphis Showboats, and Michigan Panthers. The Arlington Renegades, D.C. Defenders, San Antonio Brahmas, and St. Louis Battlehawks will play in the XFL Conference. All players will report to training camp in Arlington, Texas.
The season will kick off on Saturday, March 30, between last year’s champions, the XFL’s Arlington Renegades vs. the USFL’s Birmingham Stallions.
The games will be televised on ABC, ESPN, FOX, and FS1. It should be a fun league to watch!
