Young will face Michael Alvarez at The Portland Expo Center this Saturday night. Known as “Boogz” in the ring, Young is ranked #18 in New England, #35 in the Northeast, and #250 in the Pro Lightweight Division (source, Tapology).
McElwain: Say a few words about your upcoming bout with Michael Alvarez.
Boogz: I feel it’s gonna be fun. Alvarez is young and athletic, so it should be a good test of my skillset.
McElwain: Describe boxing in one word.
Boogz: I have two words, “Controlled violence.”
McElwain: Who are your boxing influences?
Boogz: I’d have to go with Floyd Mayweather, Marvin Hagler, Vasiliy Lomachenko, and Bernard Hopkins.
McElwain: What’s your advice to anyone wanting to go into boxing?
Boogz: Don’t do any “play” boxing.
McElwain: Jake Paul has been making a name for himself in boxing recently. What’s your opinion of him?
Boogz: I have to say this: If you put in the work, you deserve all of the rewards.
McElwain: Andrew Tate is another former boxer who has made a name for himself. What are your opinions of him?
Boogz: I like what he says, but his views sometimes sound like he’s coming off as a whiny rich man.
McElwain: Where do you see yourself in thirty years?
Boogz: Still in the boxing game, doing something.
McElwain: What are your goals for your career?
Boogz: I want to learn as much as I can so I can teach others.
McElwain: Lastly, who is your dream opponent?
Boogz: I would have to go with any fighter standing across from me. You can’t pick and choose your opponent. You have to fight whoever is available and whoever is next in line.
