Aaron Rodgers’s biblical-style retreat may have been a ruse.
Coming out of the darkness with clarity is something most of us take figuratively. But if you’re Aaron Rodgers, you take it literally even though we still don’t know what jersey Aaron will wear in September. Will it be Green and Gold? Green and White? Or a green polo as he sits poolside?
Man, this guy loves green as well as he should. Over his 17-year career in Green Bay, Rodgers has made over $200 million–and the team may be ready to make that green even deeper. But in recent times, it has been a dicey proposition. For example, even though Rodgers signed a 3-year extension in 2022, many fans were unsure if he would return this season.
Then came his on-field performance in 2022-23. He didn’t end the season on a high, not with an 8-9 record and just over 3600 yards passing, which was his lowest in a full season. And remember, too, an extra game was thrown in (the season was extended this year to 17 regular-season contests). Plus, Rodgers’s 12 interceptions were the most since the 2008 campaign.
That was then.
Today, we’re learning that a person reportedly in the know says that Rodgers told him his decision before entering the “darkness.” The source added that Rodgers had told people he would “play somewhere else,” in a place that respects him for the player he is. “Green Bay doesn’t respect me or the game,” Rodgers reportedly said. New York and New Orleans were given as options, as were the SF 49ers.
What could’ve been the catalyst for animosity with the team “Up North”? It could’ve started when GB traded Davante Adams to the Raiders. The interesting part of this–besides the fact Rodgers seems to have made up his mind before entering the darkness–is that Adams might have a say in the QB decision. Could an LVR reunion be in the cards?
No matter where he lands, it seems Aaron Rodgers had something up his sleeve, and it NEVER included Green Bay.
