Red Raiders excelled in the air and on the field.
There have been many flyovers during the big event sports games, but Super Bowl 57 had a special flyover. The United States Navy’s female fighter pilots flew over the stadium as our National Anthem was sung.
The group was picked to celebrate 50 years of women flying in the U.S. Navy. Lt. Suzelle Thomas piloted an F-35C, a new aircraft in the Navy fleet. Lt. Thomas made history by being the first woman to qualify directly to fly the aircraft, which means she didn’t have to train to pilot the aircraft.
The lead pilot was Navy Lt. Arielle Ash. Lt. Ash is a native Texan from Abilene and (like myself) a Texas Tech graduate. Patrick Mahomes, who also represented Texas Tech, played in his third Super Bowl, won his second, and grabbed the MVP award, too.
Congrats to all the female Navy pilots on the flyover, and a special congrats to Lt. Arielle Ash. She and Mahomes did Texas Tech proudly.
Awesome women! Great article! If this doesn’t inspire young men and women to join the military and fly jets…I don’t know what will. Wonderful article Matthew Paris! I love this one!
