Patrick’s dad was a major league pitcher.
NFL fans know Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs. The fierce and talented signal-caller will lead his team into the AFC Championship game this weekend against the Cincinnati Bengals. But relatively few fans know about his father, Pat Mahomes.
Pat Mahomes, a right-handed pitcher, played pro baseball from 1992 to 2003 with various teams–the Twins, Red Sox, Mets, Rangers, Cubs, and Pirates. Born in Bryan, Texas, near College Station, Mahomes began his career in 1988 with the Elizabethton Twins, worked his way to the Triple-A Portland Beavers, and made it to the Bigs in 1992.
In an MLB career that spanned eleven seasons, the elder Mahomes played in over 300 games and was 42-39 overall with a 5.47 ERA. He started 63 games and saved five more. 1999 was the best season of his career when he went 8-0 with the Mets.
Now you know about Pat Mahomes. This weekend will know if his son Patrick can get to another Super Bowl.
I had no clue about Patrick Mahomes dad. Very interesting article! Thanks for bringing this info to light! Great article Matthew Paris.
