NFL: Cancel the Season

Hamlin’s collapse on national TV should be a wake-up call.

On Monday night, during a broadcast of the Bills vs Bengals game, 2020 All-ACC Player and safety Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on the field. Hamlin collapsed in front of a stadium of 60,000 people and a national TV audience. According to his uncle, The 24-year-old Hamlin had to be revived twice and is currently in the ICU, on a ventilator, fighting for his life.

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen players suffer medical emergencies on the field. This season, Dolphins’ player Tua Tagovailoa has suffered multiple concussions, and many have urged him to give up the game.

If the NFL is serious about player safety, it will cancel the season and work on what can be done to ensure an incident like Hamlin’s never happens again. Think about it from this perspective: we keep losing NFL players yearly to CTE or various medical issues caused by football. Perhaps more protocols can be established if the NFL pulls the plug on this season. It would be the right thing to do.

For now, I send my prayers to Hamlin and his family. Use his story as a wake-up call.
