It’s another Hollywood-pro sports link.

Many of us know Jerry Bruckheimer’s movies, even if his name is unfamiliar. We’ve watched Beverly Hills Cop, Top Gun, Bad Boys, and other feature films. He scored a huge box office hit last summer with Top Gun: Maverick, a sequel to the 1986 movie.

A University of Arizona graduate, Bruckheimer started producing commercials before moving to big Hollywood blockbusters.

Bruckheimer has many talents in the entertainment industry, but he also loves sports, hockey especially. That’s when the idea of getting into NHL hockey came into focus. Bruckheimer knew Seattle was interested in hosting an NHL team. The majority holders took notice, and Bruckheimer through his hat in the ring. The rest (as they say) is history.

The Seattle Kraken is the league’s newest franchise, playing in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. The team is the first professional hockey team to play in Seattle since the Seattle Totems of the Western Hockey League.

The mythical Kraken comes from Scandinavian folklore and resembles a giant Pacific octopus. The team finished 8th in their division last season and didn’t make the playoffs, but this year is different. On November 25, Seattle was in second place in the division with a 12-5-3 record and 27 points.

Things are looking up for the Kraken, and Jerry Bruckheimer is ready to do a lot of cheering as the season progresses.
