Sports help us win in the game of life.
The most important thing for a parent and a child is to have the parent put their kids in some sort of fun activity. It could be sports, or it could be somewhere in the arts, but the point is to put them in an activity where they can thrive. Why sports? Sports has certainly been a huge factor in my life. I come from a sports family, but I also enjoy doing it. Sports help build stamina and confidence.
But there’s another reason to value sports. Sports can save a life.
According to UCLA Health, “Suicide is the second-leading cause of death among people age 15 to 24 in the U.S. Nearly 20% of high school students report serious thoughts of suicide, and 9% have made an attempt to take their lives, according to the National Alliance on Mental Illness.”
I believe sports can be a deterrent. In sports, young people learn how to be successful in a team endeavor, make friends, and achieve a valued end–succeeding. They also learn how to deal with disappointment. In many ways, sports help us learn how to win in life.
