Was this Brady’s “family emergency?”
We are all searching for the best athletes to put our team over the top. Is winning everything? A lot of people seem to think so. Winning helps the business side and gets people into seats to cheer for their favorite team. It happens from youth sports up to professional sports.
So, you can expect that proposition to be on steroids when it comes to perhaps the best quarterback ever, Tom Brady. He has set records and won championships, and he is still playing at 44 years of age. Not long ago, he came out of retirement after 30 days to announce his return to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
However, not long ago, Brady took time off from pre-season practice for what he claims was “a family emergency.” Brady is reportedly back with the team, and the Bucs front office isn’t sharing details with the press.
Recently, the Miami Dolphins reportedly tried to get Brady in a package deal–starting player and part owner. But what came out over the weekend maybe even bigger. UFC president Dana White revealed that Brady and Rob Gronkowski almost became Las Vegas Raiders. Moreover, this isn’t the first time a deal was nearly struck. Back in 2020, former Raiders coach Jon Gruden intervened to stop a deal.
When the press began investigating the new possibility, Raiders owner Mark Davis was mum about it. He didn’t say no. He didn’t say anything, and that feels to me as though there could be some truth to the possibility.
Consider this. David knows the Dolphins get penalized for tampering, so why find yourself in the same can of soup? Well, only time will tell. Or, as often happens in high-profile situations (e.g., Tiger’s auto accident), we may never know exactly what came down.
I will say this: I think Brady would have looked good in Silver and Black. Moreover, #12 might have gotten the Raiders–and an iconic NFL franchise–back to the Super Bowl with a chance to get his seventh ring. What a story that would have been!
Great article! I am a Die Hard Raider fan. I just recently heard this. Now, as much of a problem that I had with the “Tuck Rule” (Which of course involved Brady and the Patriots against the Raiders-we all know how that turned out) I would have loved to have Brady and Gronk on the Raiders. Thank You Matthew Paris for filling in the blanks about this story that I didn’t know!
