The 35th Tamil Nādu (India) U-09 Open Chess Championship ended on Sunday.
The championship was held from Thursday to Sunday at the Mohamed Sathak Engineering College in Kilakarai, Ramanathapuram. The event was organized by Ramanathapuram District Chess Association on behalf of the Tamil Nadu State Chess Association. The tournament had cash prizes and trophies for Top 10 Boys and Top 10 Girls.
Overall, 175 Boys and Girls participated in this mega event which had a time control of 60 minutes and 30 seconds increment.
Pranav scored a whopping 7.5 out of nine rounds and did not lose a single game. He won six rounds and drew against three rated players, totaling 7.5 points. The 7.5 points placed him third, only a half-point less than players who finished in the top two positions.
For his efforts, Pranav was awarded a trophy, a certificate, and received a cash award. He also qualified to represent Tamil Nadu in future National Under 09 Chess Championship events.
The tournament started with a grand inauguration, welcomed by MMK Mukaitheen Ibrahim, chairman of Keelakarai Educational Institutions, Vice Principal of the College Senthilkumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police Subhash. Deputy Secretary Tamil Nadu Chess Association Ephrame, and others who graced the event.
