A Wish Come True is “About the Game of Baseball”

Memories are made off-the-field, too.

One of the greatest gifts about baseball is that it brings together people from all walks of life. It’s one reason why baseball is “America’s Pastime.” And this story is about what can happen when baseball brings people together.

David Bramlet and his daughter Addison are die-hard Astros fans. After the 2017 World Series between the Dodgers and  Astros, Addison– who was seven years old at the time–asked her father a question. “If the Astros make it back to the World Series, can you take me?” David promised he would.

There was a problem, though. David didn’t have the money to buy the costly tickets. So he sent out a message on social media. He would exchange his Astros memorabilia (signed jerseys, bats, balls, and seats from the old Astrodome) for tickets to Game Six.

An unlikely source–Mike Neal, a Braves’ fan–answered the call. He told Bramlet that the tickets were on their way, and he wished them a great time at the game. Miles even said he might fly from Atlanta to Houston to meet the Bramlets.

When asked about why he sent the tickets, Miles told the media “it’s about the game of baseball.” In this case, it brought strangers together and gave a young girl her wish.
