Eight teams have unblemished records at stake.
Fifty-three yards later, with seven seconds remaining at the 2020 Peach Bowl, kicker Jack Podlesny of the #9 Georgia Bulldogs upset #8 Cincinnati, 24-21, and dealt the Bearcats their only loss of the 2020 season. Who knew that viewers would be watching a prelude of college football 2021?
The two teams are back it at again–joined by a handful of other teams–seeking a bid to the College Football Playoff. The winner will capture the most coveted prize in college ball, the national championship.
Going into Week 9, Georgia and Cincinnati sport unblemished records, and today they join six other teams that will also put their perfect records on the line.
#1 AP Georgia vs. Florida
#2 Cincinnati vs. Tulane
#4 Oklahoma vs. Texas Tech
#6 Michigan vs. #8 Michigan St.
#13 Wake Forest vs. Duke
#19 SMU vs. Houston
#21 San Diego State vs. Fresno State
(#23 UTSA is on a bye week).
One team is certain to exit the ranks–either Michigan or Michigan St.–as the two teams square off in East Lansing at noon (FOX-TV). For the others, Georgia has the toughest test in their annual shootout with Florida in Jacksonville.
For Cincinnati, a date with undefeated SMU looms later (November 20). That shows there’s plenty of football left to play–not just for the undefeated teams–but for one-loss Top 25 teams … Alabama, Ohio State, Oregon, Iowa, Mississippi, Notre Dame, Kentucky, Oklahoma State, Baylor, Pitt, and Coastal Carolina. They still harbor national championship aspirations.
With all-important conference championship match-ups on the docket next month, there’s plenty of exciting college action in store.
