More than 900 players from 25 countries participated in the mega-championship event.
The event, held last weekend, was organized by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation and FIDE. Championships 2021 included individual and team championships and each national federation was represented by individuals or by teams.
The India B team of Aryaman Ganguly, Sri Akhil Prasad, Aarav Arpit Shah, and Mithun Pranav scored a grand total of 26 points overall in 9 rounds with Pranav scoring 6.5 points. Team Mongolia bagged silver with 24.5 points, while Iran Team got the bronze with 23.5 points.
Pranav also placed 7th overall in the Under 9 Boys category.
The tournament was conducted as a Swiss System competition of 9 rounds with 15 minutes and 10 seconds increments for each player using a Tornelo Platform with a Video Conferencing system (Zoom) to monitor the entire event with front and side cameras.
The victories could not have been possible without the support of Pranav’s coaches, management, teachers, and the staff of Velammal Matriculation School. Pranav and his parents also give thanks to the Rayavellore District Chess Association, Tamilnadu State Chess Association, and the All-India Chess Federation.
