Wearing a hat that read “I told you so!” father LaVar Ball has reason to boast. When it comes to the NBA, it’s “Ball in the Family” in his clan. The most recent court addition–Gelo Ball–is showing what he can do.
Now it’s Gelo’s turn–LiAngelo Ball, that is–brother of Lonzo and reigning NBA Rookie of the Year, LaMelo. Gelo is getting playing time in the Summer League with the Charlotte Hornets. Gelo is attempting to become the third brother to carve out a roster spot in the NBA.
And he’ll do just that if he continues to put up stats as he did in his SL debut. He went 5/8 from distance for 16 points, had a trifecta of two’s (rebounds, assists, and steals), and did it all in 16 minutes of play. And Pops and brother Melo got an opportunity to see the display live.
Then, Gelo followed up Day 1 with 10 points and 5 rebounds in Game 2.
Could Gelo be showing pundits that they were wrong about his game? After going undrafted in 2018, many pundits questioned whether LiAngelo had the talent to make the NBA and follow in his brothers’ footsteps. If Game 1 is any indication, Gelo looks primed to have the last laugh.
How might he contribute? Gelo looks to be a role player, coming off the Hornets bench. His scoring ability, quick release, and defensive ball-stealing prowess are prime assets.
LaVar knew that all his boys could ball, and now the basketball world sees what he meant.
