The conference-leading Seattle Storm (9-2, Western) and Connecticut Sun (8-2, Eastern) have been trading places all season as the WNBA’s top team.
The Storm is coming off back-to-back wins over the Dream in Atlanta, and the Sun also comes into the game on a two-game streak, having defeated La Vegas and New York this past week.
The challenge for Connecticut is that it will be playing one player short and possibly two.
Star Jonquel Jones is fulfilling a responsibility to her adopted country, Bosnia Herzegovina, by playing in the EuroBasket Summer League tournament. It means the Sun will miss her 21-plus points and 10 rebounds per game contribution. And DeWanna Bonner has a lower back injury and may miss the game. But Connecticut still has Jasmine Thomas, Brionna Jones, and Natisha Hiedeman to take on Seattle’s Jewell Lloyd, Breanna Stewart, and Mercedes Russell, and that makes for great match-ups.
So expect to see another competitive showdown–especially if Seattle’s 90-87 overtime win at home in late May is any indication of what will happen today.
Tip time is 2p at Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun Arena.
