Sports Games I Want to See in ‘Smash Ultimate’

We are just days away from the release Nintendo Direct at E3, Tuesday, June 15, 12p Eastern Time.

Expected to be announced during this event is who will be the next DLC fighter in Smash Ultimate. Smash has had many great fighters this far, with the likes of Mario, Snake, Sonic, Steve, Pyra, and Banjo-Kazooie. With two fighters remaining for Fighters Pass Two, here are the sports-inspired characters that I would love to see either in this game or in future Smash Bros. games.

1. Mii Sports: Wii has been represented in Smash before with the Wii Fit Trainer and Mii fighters being put into the game. But I would love to see what Nintendo does with Mii Sports in future games. Each move could represent a different sport featured in this game, such as bowling, basketball, baseball, and golf. For example, the Final Smash could be a giant golf club whacking the opponent out of the ring.

2. Scorpion from Mortal Kombat: Mortal Kombat represents the sport of MMA. Scorpion’s moveset could consist of all his original moves from the franchise, toned down for the sake of not getting Smash to an ‘M’ for Mature. The Final Smash could be Scorpion’s infamous Get Over Here! Move.

3. Chun-Li from Street Fighter: We’ve had Ryu in Smash and Ken in Smash, so let’s get Chun-Li in the Smash Ring! This moveset could consist of Chun-Li’s signature fast kicks and punches, with the Final Smash being a series of swift kicks.

4. Mike Tyson from Mike Tyson’s Knockout: Although Masahiro Sakurai has made it pretty clear that he would only consider video game characters for Smash games, a case can be made for Mike Tyson’s inclusion on the roster.  Tyson technically is a game character because he collaborated with Nintendo to make Mike Tyson’s Knockout. His moveset could be inspired by all of his signature boxing moves, with the Final Smash being ear-biting–toned down, of course.

5. Basketball players from NBA 2K: The entire roster of NBA 2K should be included in Smash. 2K is one of the most popular sports games globally, and the NBA has made millions of dollars from the franchise. The basketball player’s moveset could include blocks, free throws, and a Final Smash of slam dunking the opponent into a basketball hoop.

6. Sweet Tooth from Twisted Metal: For my last Smash Sports Game hopeful, I went with the monster truck driving mascot of Twisted Metal’s demolition derby game. Sweet Tooth’s moveset could incorporate his monster truck running the opponent over and using a cannon to shoot at the opponent. The Final Smash would be Sweet Tooth using his truck on the Twisted Metal course with all the other Twisted Metal characters running over the opponent at once, similar to Min Min from Arms and Mega Man.

If Nintendo is reading this, please review my requests with your developers!
