Today’s rematch is important.
The teams split a pair of games the last time that the Los Angeles Sparks faced off against the Phoenix Mercury. On June 16, the Sparks prevailed by five and, then, on June 18, the Mercury came back to win by 14.
Currently, both teams are 6-7, with the Mercury one spot out of a playoff spot at #9. The Sparks are #10. If the season were to have ended yesterday–and the final playoff spot was up for grabs–the tie-breaking procedure would come into play, and the first of four procedures is the teams’ record in head-to-head games.
That’s why today’s rematch is important. The two teams play tonight at 6p. Eastern in Phoenix.
Which team will prevail? Will it be the Sparks’ lineup that includes Amanda Zahui B., Brittney Sykes, and Karlie Samuelson? Or will it be the Mercury with Brittney Griner, Diggins Smith, and Diana Taurasi?
It’s not too early to watch these teams. After all, a playoff spot is on the line.
