Thankfully, today’s NY Knicks are a lot better than they were in 2005.
Madagascar is a 2005 family comedy film starring Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Jada Pickett-Smith, and David Schwimmer, each of whom plays an animal. They find themselves on the island of Madagascar after being transferred out of their home at Central Park Zoo in New York City–the result of the zebra (Chris Rock) wanting to seek solace in the ‘wild’ of Connecticut.
The movie was released in late May, right at the end of the 2005-06 basketball season, and the Knicks went 23-59 that year. That’s a far cry from two NBA titles won in the 1970s. So it made sense to throw a little shade the Knicks way, and Madagascar did exactly that.
One scene I remember is when Alex the Lion (Ben Stiller), Gloria the Hippo (Jada Pickett-Smith), and Melman the Giraffe (David Schwimmer) board the train to Grand Central Station. Alex spies the newspaper the pedestrian is holding and learns that the Knicks lost again and that home attendance reached an all-time low.

Thankfully, that was over 15 years ago. This year, the Knicks had their best season in a decade, finishing ten games over .500, winning seven of their last ten contests, and making the NBA playoffs as the #4-seed in the Eastern Conference.
