They are Jay-Z, LL Cool J, Foo Fighters, and Todd Lundgren.
Every year, I look forward to seeing The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony. This year, the inductees are rapper Jay-Z, rapper LL Cool J, rock group Foo Fighters, RnB legend Tina Turner, songstress Carole King, rocker Todd Rundgren, and pop group The Go-Gos.
My top four inductees also have sports connections.
Jay-Z: Rapper Jay-Z is also a producer, writer, actor, and entrepreneur. Among his accomplishments is launching the sports company Roc Nation Sports. According to the company’s website, the athletes under contract include soccer’s Billy Gee and basketball’s Kyle Irving and LaMelo Ball. According to Forbes, the company’s estimated worth is over $1 billion.
LL Cool J: Rapper LL Cool J was a pioneer of rap music. In 2019, according to VladTV, LL and Ice were looking into buying the Fox Sports Channel from Twentieth Century Fox.
Foo Fighters: When Nirvana disbanded in 1994 after Kurt Cobain’s death, drummer Dave Grohl needed to figure out what to go next. He started a group, The Foo Fighters. Now Grohl is set to become the tenth artist to be inducted in the Hall from two different groups. In sports, the band performed The Line during the 2017 MLB postseason.
Todd Rundgren: Rundgren has had a fantastic music career, and his sons, Rex and Randy Rundgren, played Minor League baseball. Rex was drafted by the Boston Red Sox but decided to first play college ball at Sacramento City College. After graduating, he joined the Mid-Pacific Owls as a shortstop. Randy followed in Rex’s footsteps and attended the same school. In 2004, was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in 2004. He played for the LaCrosse Loggers. Rex is now a music producer, and Randy coaches high school baseball.
Congratulations to all of the inductees. The induction ceremony will take place on October 30th.
