A new and different defensive alignment is in order.
On Tuesday, Japan’s National Team beat Mongolia’s National Team 14-0 in a World Cup 2022 Qualifying match held in Chiba, Japan. The outcome was awful news for Mongolia’s coach, Rastislav Božik, who is responsible for player preparation and the team’s gameplan.
And to make matters even worse, Japan could have scored many more goals. The Japanese could not convert on at least ten scoring chances in the first half alone. In the second half, they missed another six great scoring opportunities. 14-0 could have easily become 20- or even 30-0.

Božik must put weighty work on improving Mongolia’s defense line and strategy. For starters, I think he needs to have five players (at least!) in his defensive line during the matches, and he must have each defender focus on a specific attacker or middle player. That approach is what the Greek football manager, Nikos Alefantos, used and the approach gained him respect from opponent teams.
Mongolia has nothing to lose. Improve the defensive alignment and practice it. That way, at the very least, losses should they come won’t be as lopsided as what happened on Tuesday.
