Yes, you read the headline correctly. Here’s why.
Tom Brady’s seventh Super Bowl victory solidifies the Steelers as the all-time best NFL franchise. How so?
The first thing we have to establish is the criterion for being considered the best team ever. I believe that standard is the number of Super Bowl victories. Yes, many things make a franchise great–history, great players, statistics, among them. But every team is playing for the same thing, namely, to win the Super Bowl. Nothing is more important.
Two teams have won the most Super Bowls, six to be exact–the Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots. So how can we decide which of these teams is the more incredible franchise?
This brings us back to Tom Brady. If winning Super Bowls is the criteria of success, Brady is untouchable. He is the G.O.A.T. But it also shows that the Patriots’ victories came with Brady under center. Of course, football is a team sport for sure, but the Patriots would not have six without Brady.
And that is the difference between the Steelers and the Patriots–and that difference establishes the Steelers as the most outstanding franchise.
The Steelers have no one player to attribute their success. Instead, the franchise has maintained a system of excellence for 50 years.
Tom Brady is the greatest player of all time, which has benefited the Patriots and the Buccaneers. But the Steelers are the most fantastic franchise of all time, winning without standing on a G.O.A.T.’s shoulders.
